Following their relegation from the top flight AVS will have hoped to have got off to a wining start in their return to Liga 2. The new Sporting mister Tiago Fernandes takes charge of his first game since his return to the club in the summer. Despite his good performances for the first team in pre-season Felicíssimo found himself once more lining up for the B side.
First Half
With two minutes played, Couto went close to giving the lions the lead, but saw his shot saved from ten yards. With half hour gone, the lions were fortunate to see a header from a corner, far side, sent over the bar at the back post, from just 2 yards. Seconds later Almeida could only steer his header well wide of the right hand post from 6 yards. AVS's life got march harder when Pinho was shown a straight red card for a late challenge just inside his own half.
Second Half
With a minute gone Felicíssimo tried from 30 yards but saw his effort go past the left hand post of Rebollo. Rodrigues went close to opening his account for the lions when his goalbound effort from 18 yards was pushed away by Rebello. Silva replaced Almeida on 56 and Anjos replaced Sanhá on 62. Double substitution on 71 for the lions as Oliveira replaced Leeand Mendes for

The lions were back in their traditional green and white horizontal stripes. Chaves in a vile two tone pink kit that makes their club crest look stylish by comparison. After making his debut for the first XI last Saturday when Maxi Araújo was suspended, Rodrigo Dias returned to the starting lineup for the afternoon kick off at Alcochete. Both he and Nel were also unused substitutes in last night's win over Vitória. On 12’ a driving run from Sanhá ended with him stinging the hands of the Chaves keeper. On 24’ Couto with a poor first touch inside the area then struck a wild shot over from 16 yards. On 35’ new boy Rodrigues brought a low save from 25 yards but in truth the keeper wasn't really tested.
Three minutes after the break, an attack down, the right from the lions looked like it had brought about a penalty, but before the referee had a decision to make, Cunha had driven home the ball from a narrow angle to give Sporting the lead. On 67' Nel's slide rule pass to Justo was swept home from 7 yards but correctly ruled offside. Still 1-0. On 69' Couto and Sanhá were replaced by Anjos and Mendes. With 9 minutes remaining of the 90, Mendes hits a wicked curled effort from the edge of the box, centrally, which cannons to safety off the left hand post. Another double substitution 8 minutes from time saw Nel and Cunha replaced by Silva and Costa. If Mendes' effort had deserved a goal, then the same has to be said of Ktatau's effort on 85'. He struck an absolute thunder bastard from 25 yards that struck Pires' right hand post. A late scare for the lions as Chaves were awarded a penalty deep into time added on at the end of the 90 only for it to be overturned on review.

On 28' A goalbound effort from Silva was tipped around the post by Pires to prevent the home side from taking the lead. They did however take the lead on 38' following a mistake in the final third from Felicíssimo. Genuinely no idea what he was trying to do with the ball as he turned facing the goal and just passed to Svensson who was quickly off to the races. Svensson's pass inside the area then found Davo wide open who slid the ball effortlessly past the onrushing Pires into the bottom right hand corner.
On 61' Justo poked an effort wide of the left hand post by a yard after good work inside the area to fashion the opening from the youngsters. Svensson hit the bar with an effort struck first time from 17 yards on '75. The lions were leading a charmed life. I genuinely cannot tell you how Svensson's goal on 86' to make it 2-0 goes in. It seems to defy all known laws of physics. He must be 14 inches off the goal line and 2 feet outside the six yard box but somehow fires over the leg of a defender and Pires who was covering the near post. He struck it with such venom he went down with cramp in his celebrations. Four defenders in the buildup covering the far side leaving Svensson open. Masters of their own downfall for both goals in the buildup. That's the lions first loss of the season.

The young lions take on the side that was setup as branch number 2 of Sporting CP hence why the lions on their club badges match.
On 28' Couto forces Fabijan Buntić into a save low to his right from 20 yards. On 32' Farense really should have taken the lead through Poloni. Pires had rushed off his line and was level with the penalty spot when the forward shot past him from 14 yards. The goalbound effort was somehow kept out by Tanlongo who quite literally threw himself at the ball to turn it behind for a corner. Great defending by the captain. Golazzo on 44' when Couto slams the ball from the centre of the D into the top right hand corner past Buntić.
Resende came close to an equaliser on 51' as he flicked the ball over Pires who'd gone to ground. Cutting back for a better angle allowed the keeper to get back to his feet and he blocked the effort from 8 yards on the corner of his six yard box and whilst the ball travelled goalbound, once more Pires had a defender to be thankful for backing him up behind as Taibo cleared for a corner.
Nel found himself unmarked on 54' with time to get a shot away from 24 yards but it whistled past the right hand post for a goal kick. Farense thought they'd found the equaliser on 57' when Mattheus' effort flew in low from 24 yards and deceived Pires. He was however flagged offside. On 66' Costa brought down Resende and a penalty was awarded. Poloni sat Pires down to tuck home the equaliser into the left hand side a minute later. On 75' Couto came so close to his and Sporting's second as his 30 yard free kick which was heading for the top left hand corner was saved by Buntić.
The Farense goal was leading a charmed life on 78' as Justo fired at the keeper from 8 yards who could only parry it back to him. His second effort hit the left hand post and finally Rodrigues with a third effort put the ball well wide from 15 yards. Claudio Falcão was sent off on '83 when he went through the back of Nel in the centre circle. Farense's evening got worse when substitute Singh was adjudged to have fouled Rodrigues just inside the Farense box and a penalty was awarded one minute past the 90. Two minutes later Nel smashed the penalty home to make it 2-1. The drama however still not over as Nel was shown a red card three minutes later. However the lions got the win which takes them up to third above Penafiel who beat them last time out. Noting Daniel Costa did indeed come on as a half time substitute and was replaced a minute before the end of the 90.
