Sunday October 18th, 2026
Matchday 4

Starting XI

Coster, Filipa, Eaton-Collins, Barron, Ramírez, Martins, Grant, Cameirão, O’ Donnell, Encarnação and Armengol

Substitutes

Wozniak, Santiago, Pérez, Marau, Costa, Cherry, Bravo, Besugo and Rodrigues

The lionesses adorned in pink and white as Sporting promote their annual breast cancer awareness for October. It took them just 3 minutes to open the scoring. Filipa had a shot blocked from 18 yards, the rebound fell back to her however and at the second attempt she leathered it past the keeper from 14 yards for 1-0. Touch of controvesy to the equaliser when Martins was adjudged to have handled in the penalty area. She jumps inside the D and whilst she clearly handles it, it doesn't look like any part of the offence was committed inside the box. Still VAR deemed it a penalty and Weimer Janaina with a cool finish into the bottom right hand corner for 1-1 with 23 minutes gone. 25' Armengol will feel she should have done better with her effort from 14 yards which was tipped past the near post by Costa for a corner. The Sporting forward appears to slip at the point of contact with the shot. 31' Captain Eaton-Collins quite literally threw herself to block a shot from Torreense goalscorer Janaina and the ball went out of play for a corner nearside.

45' Santiago and Bravo for O’Donnell and Martins

53' Encarnação collected the ball 16 yards out with her back to goal and did a complete 180° turn and got her shot away but it was straight at Costa and easily saved. 61' Golazzo from Armengol as she fired from the D past Costa into the right hand side of the goal. Quality piece of finishing from the youngster from a good 22 yards out. 65' Bárbara Latorre will have been left kicking herself when unmarked in the lionesses box she fired straight at Coster from 12 yards. Massive chance for Torreense. 73' If Armengol's goal felt special then Encarnação somehow managed to go one better. She started her run from the right hand side and carried on towards goal. With two defenders already backing off a third managed to get back in support all now in front of Encarnação lessening her sight of goal. She steps out to the left to make space for her shot before unleashing a rocket between two of them up into the top left hand corner past the flying Costa. A truly, truly special goal from an incredibly talented player.

75' Cherry for Armengol

80' Latorre caused issues in the box again, this time drawing a good diving save from Costa from 13 yards.

83' Dias for Encarnação and 87' Besugo for Grant

With three minutes of additional time indicated the job seemed done and dusted, however Latorre finally got her goal 35 seconds past the 90. Despite three defenders in the box not one thought to try mark her and all too easy for the Spaniard who slotted home into the bottom right hand corner from 14 yards. Still despite the last wobble the win takes Sporting top on ten points though Benfica do currently have a game in hand and would leapfrog them back to the top of the summit with a win.
